Hi all:
I got my land paid off about three months ago and applied for, and received, an address for my property. Contrary to what it says on the Costilla County website, you CAN apply for and receive an address for a vacant property. Right now I'm trying to get things squared away here where I live in preparation for moving and building on the property. I expect this will take me about a year or a little more or less depending on what happens between now and then.
One of the things that concerns me is the security of my property while I'm trying to set up my little homestead. I've heard of others having their stuff stolen if they can't get to their property on a regular basis. So I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can keep my property secure while I'm not there. Right now it isn't a big deal because there isn't anything there but a bunch of brush, but when I start building it's going to be a concern for me. What should I consider? Building a fence? keep a dog inside? What has worked for you?
